Dr. Aaron West presents "The American Recording Industry: How did We Get Here and Where are We Going?" A professor of music at Collin College, Dr. West has performed with jazz and pop legends such as Arturo Sandoval, Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, and the Glenn Miller Orchestra. In 2007, he released his first solo album Colors and Angles. Aside from his performance career, Dr. West was the first person to complete a Ph.D. in musicology relating to a jazz subject from the University of North Texas. His dissertation, "Caught Between Jazz and Pop: The Contested Origins, Criticism, Performance Practice, and Reception of Smooth Jazz," has led to an interest in popular forms of jazz as well as social and canonic issues relating to popular music.
